Happy New Year

by Staci Louise Smith

Happy New Year from all of us here at LMAJ!

Now that most all of the holiday dinners are done, and gifts are given, and the kids are going back to school...........now what?

How do you start your new year?  Are you fired up with a million ideas and tons of motivation?  Or are you floundering and procrastinating, totally drained from 2014?

I know I am the latter- totally procrastinating.  I need to get show app's out, like ASAP.  I need to enter a years worth of receipts (my own fault, I know).  I need to finish up some VERY late class proposals and hope I can still get in to teach.............

But my studio looks like this......................

My shipping area like this................................

My receipt drawer like this....................

I want to do none of it.

NONE

OF

IT

So I started to clean up a space on my desk, and there was wire sitting there.

And on my very long list of things that need to be done, is to make Bead Dreams submissions.

And I was thinking one of those submissions would need a wire armature in it.

So I thought I would quick play with some wire (only take a minute) just to see how I'd want to do it.

The rest of the desk never got cleared.
The receipts did not get entered.
The studio is still full of piles.

But I made this necklace (upper right corner)
Which led to these earrings (left and bottom)

Which led to this.

Which led to this.

and none of it led to making armature for polymer clay.....:shaking my head at myself:
And now I just want to make jewelry.

I am the worst employee ever, and if i weren't my own boss I'd totally fire myself.

So, how are you guys doing?  On fire, or just lugging along?  I'd love to hear how you are ready to take on 2015!!!

Thank you for sharing, I recognize myself in some;))
That's good, I Think you should take advantage of your creativity when you get it, there comes a time to do all these other things, probably ... I like your ideas and especially the necklaces! Good luck with everything!

I start with Zest! I am blessed and grateful for my "shop elf" (my dad) who starts to clean and organize during my last weeks of shows, so the new year starts out with a bang.

Beautiful designs, Staci! You're taking part in what I call productive procrastination... you're getting something done (maybe something amazing) it's just not what you're supposed to be doing. :)

Now that's what I like to call "constructive procrastination." Maybe you didn't do what you're supposed to do, but you created something beautiful and the time spent was not wasted. Love these designs!

I start out with Zest! It's cold outside and so my focus is in. I love to glaze when it's cold out and think ahead to spring. As for the receipts.... that's another day though I try at least two times a year to organize it so it's not such a big deal come this time of year. I use a divided folder with the months to stash receipts and statements and try to make all purchases out of one account. Thanks for sharing that awesome necklace design!

Just lugging along... mostly making stamps and textures and drawing stuff. Not really accomplishing much in the way of actual bead-making, sigh. But I have also been sick so I had that excuse. Now I'm on the mend and need to get my tail into gear!

what no forgotten coffee cups in the corner of the workspace for about a month or so? lol..
makes everyone feel better that we are just into "the work" and with any luck every few months we become inspired to tidy up the place a bit!

I already rounded up the coffee cups because we were out and expecting guests....lol! otherwise, there are usually at least three water cups and three mugs at all times

Hi Stacie - I can't think of a better way to deal with the boring cleaning and tidying jobs - making something is always more enjoyable. Looking forward to another year of the create journey of LMAJ. Go well. B
