Reinventing Myself...

In exchange for the promise of security, many people put a barrier between themselves and the adventures in consciousness that could put a whole new light on their personal lives.
- June singer

When asked to be a guest post by Mary Jane this past month you cannot imagine my excitement!  Then after all the adrenaline wore off I was in a state of panic!  Oh how things change so quickly.  What in the world will I talk about?  After all, I have been in a creative slump since the end of May!

Then it hit me!  I need to talk about my latest endeavors…
workshops!

I really enjoy learning new things.  So when I have the chance to take workshops I jump at the chance and just recently I took a workshop with Richard Salley at Thomas Mann studioFlux.  Even though I already knew many of the techniques he was going to teach I thought it would be fun to see how he approached things.   And boy did he have a few tricks up his sleeve!

I learned a new way to make hinges and transfer images to metal in a more efficient manner.

Here is Richard talking to me about the secrets of the locket.   Ha!  There is no secret because Richard told us all about it!  Hahaha!

What does this have to do with reinvention?  Not a single thing!  This leads me to my next story.

Just recently I have been given the opportunity to devote more time to my art.  I used to have a job…a promise of security but that went away and now all I am left with is a new adventure.

I have told many people…you should do a workshop in Mexico.  That is only because I love Mexico with all my heart and want an excuse to go visit.  When I am there I feel so connected and at home.  The surroundings are rich with color and the people are friendly.  I get inspired by just being there…being present.  There is nothing like coming back from a trip, having seen new things, and having met new people to spark those creative juices!

When the opportunity presented itself to organize a workshop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico…I could not refuse!

*SIGH*
That is the sound of butterflies in my stomach.

Is that beautiful or what?

And that is where I am in my journey of life…organizing a 3-day workshop:  Unbuckled with master jeweler Jesse Bert.

The workshop is scheduled for this fall, November 9-11, 2012.

May the beauty we love,
be what we do.

Kalaya, That is incredibly exciting!! I know what it is to find yourself in a creative slump :o( Finding your way out is a journey in itself and it looks like this is working out for you..... I believe that if the opportunity presents itself and your feelings tell you it feels right, then go for it! I wish I could go..... Someday, when I retire from teaching my dream is to be able to be free to travel and enjoy different experiences such as what you are doing :o)

I would love to take a class with Richard Salley (you lucky gal)!!!
Your locket cuff is awesome!

Best of luck with your teaching. I think it sounds like it was meant to be. It takes great courage to follow our heart, and instints and not just go the comfortable route.
