Being True

by Izzy Winterhart

"Six essential qualities that are the key to success:
Sincerity, personal integrity,
humility, courtesy,
wisdom, charity."
~ William Menninger

In the beginning of my jewelry making and blogging days I came across so many people that I thought were the absolute greatest. I was enamored. But as time passed I realized some real truths about these individuals. Once I saw through their facade, I was disappointed. It didn't take long for me to wise up. It didn't take long for me to realize how important it is to remain true to yourself and not "fake" a personality for success. I'm not sure why some choose to mask their true selves, perhaps lack of confidence, fear of gaining acceptance, or not knowing their true heart. Who knows. Personally I think it's much easier to just be who you are.

I realize that being true to yourself takes courage. It requires you to be introspective, forthright, tolerant, objective, honest and well, the list goes on and on. But it is so worth it. Being true to the very best that is in you allows you to live your life with consistency. It leaves you an open vessel to creativity and experience.

Here are a few rules I try to follow on my "true" path:
- Follow your own moral philosophies and common sense.
- It's okay to ask the advice of others, but make up your own mind.
- Recognize, acknowledge and grow your own unique talents. Be original.
- R-E-S-P-E-C-T (sing it with Aretha). Respect yourself AND others.
- You are unique, you are different and it's OKAY! Accept it!
- Teach it and preach it. Once people see that you are okay with being you, they will follow suit.

So go ahead. Don't be scared. Jump up and down, dance around and shine that little beam of light that is you!

I have to tell you Izzy...I agree with you so so much, but for me it has taken some time to get here...I will openly admit that in the beginning of my Journey,Creative turned Self,I did not know how to -trust or respect myself...I am still learning to do so,but I am inching closer everyday.
Your wonderful tips are some that we need to carry around with us,keep them in our pockets, because it is easy to forget who we are....and who we are supposed to be.I am thankful for your words today.Hugs,Cat

I also think this is a fabulous post. As with anything, it takes us time to learn our surroundings and then make decisions based on that. I believe in living an honest life even if some of that others might be critical of. I know me and my experiences are what they are. I find that being true to me brings special relationships that I didn't know I could have. Thanks for sharing your honesty :o) MaryAnn

AMEN! I think you've done a great job with this post Izzy. I am catching up on reading the blog and just came across yours. What a true statement! I feel the same way about some of the people I have met. Initially I thought they were the next best thing to sliced bread but I was wrong. I am so far from perfect and have made many mistakes in my life. To those that I have hurt in any way, I have apologized and have asked for forgiveness, knowing things were my fault. Bring true to myself and accepting my faults is a challenge and an ongoing process. It takes time, courage (like you said) and willingness to change. One of my daily prayers is to continue to be strong and on that right path. I am tired of people not being humble and honest.

Again, thanks for a great post!
