Kiln Drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                                                            by Kelli Pope

NO PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!

With new professional photos added to Zapplication, I've applied to MANY more shows this year. Still received some denials, but 2 pretty big ones so far have accepted me.  2nd weekend in May I get to drive 2 1/2-3 hours to Paducah, KY for the Lower Town Arts show.  YAY!!!!   Two weeks later I get to drive 2 hours to Cincinnati, Ohio for the 3 day SummerFair show.  YAY!!!  The following weekend I get to do one of my regular shows, locally in LaGrange, KY.  YAY!!!   Oh.
  Wait.
Uhhhhmmm............
That's 3 shows in 4 weekends.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I nuts?   Apparently.

Between my work schedule I've been making LOTS of jewelry, making clay beads & pendants, learning new techniques (thank you very much Susan Burge!!) and running the kiln around the clock....  or so I thought.    My first batch of glaze fired beads came out dreadfully, horribly ugly.
How can that be?     Kiln openings are glorious!!!!!!!!!!    Turns out I had a dead element.   ARRGGHHHH!!    No time for such nonsense!

I had a least 3 loads to fire!   So, I ordered a new one online, waited very impatiently for the delivery, and the wonderful, magical, handsome, irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind, mine-all-mine, handy dandy hubby Steve replaced it for me over the weekend.   Now I'm back in business!! Took out the last load tonight.

SO much better!!

Digging the bright orange!
(still looking for that perfect red glaze!! This one ran)
Pretty happy with the tree from my hand carved stamp!

AMAZING what a working kiln can do for one's mood!!  :o)     Now I just need to get about 50 more pairs of earring made .................    Time to make the earrings!!    (Looks like I'll be using Mary Ann's ear wire tutorial!!)

Glad your kiln is working again. I bet it is like Christmas when you open it and everything's exactly perfect - and those colors - wow! Good luck w/all your shows!

It is like Christmas, Shel!!!! It's the ONLY thing I will bypass the coffee pot for when I wake up. To open up to "ugly" was such a letdown.
Cool angie! I'm in H12, wherever that is :o)

My guess is that for the ones you were not accepted in there were already enough jewelry artists. I think they get an overflow of jewelry. Otherwise, you would have gotten into any of them.
