A "Classy" Giveaway......

MaryAnn Carroll
I was asked by our Family and Consumer Science Teacher, Elaine, if I would like to teach her Fashion and Design Class (new this year) to make some jewelry. They had already learned some of the basics, so I wanted to teach them something I became interested in shortly after learning to string beads. I thought that teaching some simple earrings using wire might be the trick.

First, I enameled some small round beat sets for them to choose from.

My plan was to show them a certain way to bend the wire. I had an example with me. Instead, what happened was that they all started bending their own shapes. That saved me some time ;o)

Next, it was time for some simple hammering techniques....

and some simple patina with Liver of Sulpher .....

And lastly, we have some of their lovely creations just in time for the second class period to end....

So.... since we are in "learning" mode, how would you like to be the new owner of Soldering Made Simple by Joe Silvera. This generous donation is being shared with one of you by our very own Kelli Pope.

We will keep this simple..... Just share your answer to this question-

"What is one thing that you would like to learn or learn more about?"

Please leave your comment with a contact address. I need to be able to get a hold of you if you are the winner! Feel free to share on other social media sites and let us know you did. If you have other ways to spread the word, feel free to share and let us know about it.

-up to three entries per person-

As always,

-Thank you for supporting those who create handmade with handmade-

I have to narrow it down to just one thing? There are so many! Currently I would really like to learn more about using resin to make resin bezel pendants. I've got the stinky two-part stuff from michael's, (my son likes to embed insects in it) but is there an easier formulation?

For me, metal clay and more resin, too. I have made lots of resin pieces with varying degrees of success. I need work, LOL!

Wow, they did a great job! I'd like to learn how to work well with wire. I think I rushed through learning some and need to go back to the basics!

I took some classes in metal smithing and i wish is to pursue it further. First I need to start collecting tools and then making some space in my house for a little work bench.... followed by some more classes. That was the plan for 2012 and I have made some progress but not enough.

I'd love to learn to use solder creatively and not just for practical jointing/joining purposes. Hopefully the book might hold such wonders within?! Thanks so much for the chance and I must add that I love visiting this versatile blog so much even if I don't always leave a comment.

I would love to learn more about making jewelry that looks vintage. I would also like to learn more about real vintage jewelry. I feel bad taking any apart to make something new since I don't really know what I should or shouldn't mess with.

I really want to try fold-forming metal. I love the look of it. I also haven't quite gotten the hang of soldering -- I need more practice!

Goodness there are so many things I want to learn. But first and foremost I want to learn more about metal---soldering, riveting, patina etc. This would be a great book to own. Thanks for the chance to win!

I would like to get more into metal working, but the thought scares me a little bit. Especially soldering seems to be difficult. Maybe this book will solve this problem! Nice giveaway!

Unable to get out to take a class, this book is on my wish list to help me learn and progress in soldering.
Your class looks like they had fun with their beads and wire!

I would like to learn more about soldering the most but there are some other things I would really like to do.

Although I have several things I'd like to learn more about, I've really been wanting to get more into cold connections AND soldering. I've only soldered once and didn't feel like that was enough to make me comfortable doing it on my own. Would love to win this book.

I would love to learn how to make a bezel to set a stone, for a pendant or a ring. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win this book because my soldering success is hit or miss so far.

I want to learn how to solder correctly, so this book would be perfect for me! There are a million more things I want to learn too, but all in time :)

I would love to win this book, because one of my goals is to do more metal and wire work. I need to get over the fear of the flame! lol!

I really think I'd like to learn soldering! I have taught myself to torch enamel (with the aid of Barbara Lewis' book), so I now have no fear of the torch! I took a jewelry making class years ago, and the torch was intimidating at the time. Now, I think I'd enjoy it a lot more!
I bet those girls enjoyed making those cool earrings!
