Jewelry Business Cards

This is a big weekend for many of you...Bead Fest! I wish I could have gone this year, but maybe next year I will be able to swing the trip.

As some of you know, I will be attending and teaching at my very first art retreat, artBLISS 2012, in Washington, DC next month.  I am equal parts excited, nervous, impatient and panicked about this new jump in my career of making art jewelry.  I will be documenting as much of the trip as possible to share with you here on Love My Art Jewelry, so you will have an idea of what to expect if you decide to attend next year. I hope to do a few videos, along with some interviews...as much as I can cram into my little camera I will endeavor to share!

It was time for me to update my business cards, and after reading Barbara's posts about making everything handmade, I really tried to come up with a biz card that I put my hand to. But my ideas weren't shaking out, and I since I am running out of time, I decided upon some square cards that I had made at iPrint.com.

As far as coming up with a design for my new cards, I find that photos work better then a bunch of words and numbers.  I make jewelry, write about what it means to me and try to sell my jewelry so I can keep making it.  I love how technology can connect all of us via the internet, but in reality, the best way to get your work out in the world, is to be in the world, not in your living room.  Whenever you are in front of people, you have an opportunity to give them a social object regarding your work.  That's where having a business card comes in handy.

I have designed my business card to be about as simple as it gets. Most people have a computer of some sort, either in the form of a phone, tablet, laptop or tower.  My website has all the info they would ever need about me and my work. So, I decided the only words on my business card would be my website, and I used the rest of the card's small real estate for photos.

On the card, I placed my website address the middle, which also happens to be my name.  My mug shot is on there, so that they can easily put my name to my face, and my jewelry, which is what I do with my time.  Those four photos and my web address is it. Nothing catchy...just who I am, and what I do. Easy Peasy!

I just had about 250 of these made, and I will be taking them with me to artBLISS next month. This square size also fits nicely into the glycerine envelope that I will be sending my jewelry out once my online shop is finished. There is enough space on the back of these for a short note too. And, I can use this in my jewelry case too at Number 7. I think someone would be more inclined to show this card to someone that might be interested in my work rather then a traditional business card. I mean, jewelry can't really be described in words. It needs to be seen, right?

If you have any great ideas about the collateral material you use to help promote your work, please share in the comments...and thank you for staying with me regarding my ideas about business cards!

They look just great! I love seeing jewelry on a card, it helps me to remember who did what when I take cards.

I wish you could come to bead fest too. Hopefully I will be doing bead fest next year and not just attending:) Maybe I will see you there.

It's a great card, Stacie. I think showing photos of your jewelry and yourself is an excellent idea. What size are these?

Mary Jane...a glycerine envelope can be found in the wedding section of department stores..Mary Harding, a clay artist, sent me some beads she made for a button swap in a glycerine envelope with her cards. I loved how it looked! They are clear, without the look of being a plastic baggy, is the best way to describe them. And Cyndi, the square cards are 2.25 inches square...
