One Thing Leads to the Next
That’s how the bullet casing bezels came to be.
It all started with the workshop “Uncommon Tassels by Susan Lenart Kazmer”. One of the examples paired ribbons with a bullet casing. I had to make one for myself, when I was done the tassel looked great but the casing was so . . . . boring.
Some paper and wire took care of that.
The beginning of some funky earrings, or so I thought. They were to long with the tassels attached to wear. No problem just cut off some of the brass. What I didn’t realize was how thick the base of a casing is, they were to short for the tassel to be attached.
But what a fun mistake that turned out to be. The perfect bezel.
Nothing like the plan.
One thing leads to the next and the next.

I had to laugh... I posted yesterday with a title "The Plan..." and you know how that turned out.
Your adaptation turned out great.
You took the long way around, but the end result is just gorgeous!
Where do you get bullet casings?
Brenda, you know how I feel about your bezel earrings! They're the bomb!
What a happy turn of events. Those bezels are great and I love the story behind them.
Excellent post...lovely to let the lovely findings lead the way.
Isn't that the truth ~ my son has been bringing me his empty shells....one day soon I need to play too! Love the final result ~ A terrific pair of earrings!
Your jewelry is so creative. I love "sew what" in your Etsy shop. What an adorable set of thimbles, and where on earth did you find the measuring tape?? Love, love, love!
What a great lesson in taking your first thought (I have many that don't come up like they did in my mind) and letting your mind take it somewhere else. I love that piece! Yes..... there is NOTHING like a plan ;o)
Thanks for sharing!!

You took a detour and ended up with very cool earrings. Important lesson to stick with a project even when your intended result does not go as planned!
Those are so great! The depth is amazing. Thanks for sharing your process....its always inspiring to know where things come from!
you know what a fan i am of your work (and i own a pair of bullet casing earrings)... thank you for sharing how the idea developed...
Great story, and I love your take on re-purposing. I have a stash of casings from my duck hunting husband and another friend who shoots. So many possibilities, and like you say, they do lead to a wonderful chain of ideas.
