These fab earrings were donated by our own Kelli Pope. The are made from hand hammered antiqued brass with violet patina-ted copper beads from MissFickleMedia.
Being that this giveaway is being offered on the 10th anniversary of a tragic day that faced our country, I thought it only appropriate to remember those who died during the September 11 attack on United States as well as the survivors and the families whose lives changed drastically. Many of us were old enough to feel the impact that that day had on us not only then, but for the years that followed. Here's a picture of me quite sometime ago with my sister Colleen. That view behind us no longer exists. I was teaching on that terrifying day. We were instructed to act as if nothing happened. My sister lives right outside of the city and my brother-in-law worked in the city. I could not get through to them because all of the phone lines were tied up. There was a great sense of relief when I heard that Mitch was not in the city on that day.
Today, I ask that you take a moment out to remember those killed, those that survived, and families devastated by loss and leave a comment about anything that you would like regarding that memory. Some of us as individuals have dealt with extreme tragedies in our own personal lives, but this tragedy was something that we, as a nation, experienced together. If you were too young to really remember, I ask that you take a moment of silence (something we all should do) and let us know that you did.
Feel free to spread the "sentiment" on any two of the following: blogs, facebook, twitter etc. and let us know each time that you did. Each individual comment (not 3 comments in 1 comment) will be counted as one comment.
If you do not have a social networking site of your own, please go to our website, sign our guestbook regarding this giveaway and come back to let us know. In addition, for your third entry, go to any of our members blogs or shops and either leave a comment on this blog post or come back here to leave a comment about the shop you visited and something that caught your eye.
So, whether you have a social network or you do not, you have up to three chances to enter.
Next on the agenda......
For those who said that they were interested in joining together to have a "group sale" involving those of us who create handmade, create handmade with handmade, etc. I am going to try to get a trial run together for this Friday, 9/16. Please mark your calendars. If all goes as planned, you will be able to link your shops to the post on that day. That will only be for practice.... not the real deal.
As for questions generated by some of our readers asking if this included small beginnings of creating your own handmade, the answer is "yes." If you create items using others handmade beads/components and give credit to those who created the components/beads in your piece that will count as well. The purpose is not to only have a sale, but also to spread the words in our motto:
~creating handmade with handmade~
The tentative date for this sale will be either Sunday, Oct. 2nd or Tuesday, Oct. 4th. I will leave more instructions on the practice run post this coming Friday. I hope you join us. If you have read this and do not know what I am referring to, please click HERE to be taken to the original post.
Lastly, please join us by submitting your pieces to our ArtSpark challenge and share your sentiments with us. You can get to that by clicking the links on the side bar.

At the time I was a buyer for a Kerr Drug, a local pharmacy. I remember all of us gathering around the television in the conference room. I also remember the heart ache I felt as the tears ran down my face. I didn't know anyone who lived there, but the sensitivity I was feeling to the situation was overwhelming. My heart goes out to all who were affected by that terrible event. Sending out much light and love today.
i have been listening to the coverage of the ceremony on npr... and it feels as surreal now as it did then... my dad calling me to tell me to put on the television - moments later the second plane crashing... which meant that something was horribly, terribly wrong... trying to call in to those we knew to find out if they were ok - and having the phone lines just jammed... driving on streets eerily empty, heading towards the beach... following the columns of smoke that were passing overhead due to a northwest wind (and would for a few days)... having it all confirmed when i could follow the columns to their source with my own eyes... and fearing for the lives of so many... i am having trouble getting through the ceremony - the pain seems overwhelming... i remember the feeling of national unity afterwards, and wish that it could last... that it didn't take tragedies to bring that about...
This a hard memory to write about. My husband and I were just getting ready for work. He heard it on the radio. We had no cable. I said to him "that doesn't sound like an accident." I was alone and opening the art gallery I worked for when I heard that the towers were falling. I remember the listless customers that drifted in that day before we closed early, we looked at each other and our hearts stood still. I wept for so many lives lost. I still can't believe it's been ten years...
It is a sad memory, but those are memories that I think we can all grow from. I kept the TV off today because it's been on all week with all of the memories leading to this day. I remember wishing that someone that was important to me at that time would start to appreciate life a little more and worry less about all of the little bothersome stuff that we have to deal with every day...... I can't believe it has been 10 years either.
I couldn't watch today either...
I cannot believe it has been ten years since this terrible tragedy happened to our nation. I had just sent my two sons to school and had the television on watching the Today Show. It was terrible to watch and I could not watch any of the replays today. We had a special prayer service after our regular service in church today.
I left a comment on my facebook, on Marie's blog, and on here. I hope I did it correctly to enter the giveaway.
I posted on my facebook as well as Marie's blog.
Thanks,
Sandra
I remember going into work at the state fair that day. I got there and was told at the front gate that the fair was going to be closed that day. No reason why was given. I rode the bus home and heard no mention of it. When I got home an hour later, my husband had it playing on CNN. I remember the shock that I felt that day.
I tweeted about the contest.
I shared it on FB

I was at home getting ready for work. I immediately called my son to find out where he was and make sure he was safe.

Very sad day.....heard it on my radio riding to work and I can remember thinking the station must be doing some kind of warped joke....until of course the 2nd tower was hit.
