Beads and more beads... oh happy day!!!

by Kelli Pope

Remember the 200 or so ceramic beads I made a month or so ago? I received them back in the mail today, after their bisque firing. I was SO excited to see that box when I got home from work!!! I just could wait to open it!! I love starting a piece of jewelry, and seeing the finished product, but there is just nothing quite as exciting to me as making my own ceramic beads and pendants.

You get to start out with a hunk of muddy clay, and turn it into whatever your heart desires!!

Ok... so, they're not bright and colorful and beautiful just yet, but I just LOVE them!! It's all in the creating, folks!!

AND, when I finish glazing, and firing these little pretties, they will transform into something else entirely!!! (Guess I know what I'm doing all day tomorrow!!)

What's on your creative to-do list for this weekend?

....................now THIS makes me HAPPY!!! :)

The transformation from a moist plastic material to a shiny bead is one of the things that I enjoy most about working with clay. There are always suprises along the way and seeing the little gifts that the kiln offers up is always something I look forward to. Me? My creative efforts this weekend will be in the garden. It needs some love.

And I'm happy to know they made it safely...... :o) They look great! And...You even taught me something that I didn't know. The red will become black!!! I guess I didn't make that connection last time ;o) Seems like red clay would be much better to work with than molding black like I had envisioned!!!

Who doesn't love a giant bowl of beads? Especially ones make with LOVE! They look great. I can't wait to see them all done and in some of your great creations!

It looks like you're going to have some fun today. I got my beads from Jewelry by Solange for her bead challenge yesterday. So today I'm trying to come up with some ideas for them and put them together.

I loved playing with clay and took every class I could in highschool (which wasn't much in our little town). Your photos make my heart go pitter patter,as I've always had this itch to try my hand at making beads.

This weekend I won't be creating, but instead trying to sell my wares at a gallery in Kansas City. It's rainy, so I'm not betting on a good crowd.

Enjoy your weekend!
