We're Having a Heat Wave!

by Jennifer VanBenschoten

And of course, our air conditioner is broken. Up here in the Adirondacks, we're just starting to feel the heat that has been baking the rest of the country for nearly a week now. Our air conditioner ceased to work yesterday afternoon, and until we can get a new one later today, it is going to be a hot, sticky and uncomfortable in the house. Lucky for me, I can go into Lake Placid later and sit in the air conditioning at the local coffee house and use their free wi-fi for work!

So, while I contemplate how much I really dislike the heat, I thought I'd share some of my favorite Etsy items with the theme of snow and ice...

These ice cube nuggets beads by Catalina Glass will make the temperature drop!

I love these icy blue glass beads. These would make lovely spacers in a beadwoven necklace.

Maybe I could put this lovely beadwoven choker in the freezer for a few minutes and let it cool my neck.

Just looking at this piece makes me yearn for a good winter storm.

And these lovely Cool Waters Goddess Totem earrings might be just what I need to bring a little bit of cooling rain to upstate New York!

What do you like to do to cool off in the heat? I need some ideas to keep my core temperature down until I can get in the pool later this afternoon!

I love those first 2 sets of lampies, gorgeous!!

Come to my part of the country, that'll cool you off quick. In the Pacific NW we can count the minutes we've been in the 80's so far this year. Today raining and in the 60's.

I am a winter girl. I was born in the wintertime, my last name contains winter and I could seriously sleep in snow. Especially right now. Today the temperature on our screened porch is 102 (in the shade). It's impossible to keep cool in that... But thanks for all the wonderful picks to allow visions of snowflakes to dance in my head. =)

I feel for all of you who are baking - it can be so draining. Hope you can all find a cool spot to just relax. Jen, I can see how those images whould help cool you down - beautiful and icy.

Baking right along with you so I am beading for the rest of the day so no further energy is wasted! LOL

I'm also a winter person - I would much prefer to be in the middle of a cold snap than a heat wave. It's part of the reason I moved to upstate New York when the rest of my family moved to Texas. Not that I don't love my family, but I knew I wouldn't be able to tolerate the heat down there! Thankfully, as soon as I hear back from someone at work, I'll be heading over to my in-laws' place - and their pool!

Nice icy picks. I feel cooler already. We're hot here as well with weather advisories. Me, I like to put a cold wet towel around my neck. Very fetching look!

Hey.... just looking at some of those cooled me off! Love it! My issue is that I don't like when it is too hot or it is too cold. I like the air conditioning, but find that I need a sweater on to sit in it for any length of time. I made the mistake of using the torch the other night.... next time, I think I will bring the fan with me......
