Spice up your Sunday.....

Calling all bracelet wearers..........
This is one giveaway that you DEFINITELY do NOT want to miss out on!!!
This gorgeous bracelet was created by Elisabeth Strong.

Elisabeth, who so generously donated this for our giveaway, has an etsy shop called Lizard Breath Beads.

Check it out by clicking HERE.

Here is Elisabeth's description of this beautiful piece....

"This has seven of my lampwork beads (two simple orange beads and five orange beads rolled and worked in a shimmering frit). The findings are copper and antiqued copper with a lobster clasp and the bracelet measures 9 3/4 inches."

To win???
Well....of course we just can't give this awesome bracelet away without asking a question.  I found the name of Elisabeth's Shop very interesting.  It made me wonder what goes into naming shops. If you have a shop and you would like to win this gorgeous bracelet, here is the question:

"What went into naming your shop?"

"If you don't have a shop, what are the kinds of names that you tend to remember the easiest as a buyer on Etsy?"

Feel free to share this giveaway on your facebook, twitter, blog, etc. and come back each time to let us know EACH TIME that you did.  Each must be a separate entry as each entry will count once.

On another note, we have been making some changes on our blog, to hopefully, create one that is different and fun to visit.  Here are a couple of the changes:

Mondays we invite you to join us for ART SPARK!!
This is a new challenge that will be replacing our former "Call-to-Create."

Check out our first challenge HERE.  Lots of great prizes to add to the fun.

Sundays will be a mix of giveaways and introductions to designers that create handamade with handmade.

Thank-you to everyone who has been following and participating with our blog.

And I can't forget this today......

Happy Mother's Day!

My store (not yet opened) is KJs Beadacious Beads. When I got my retail license I needed a name. I was inspired by the name Beadazzled. I made up three possible names, Beadacious (as in Be Audacious), Beadorable (as in Be Adorable), and a third that I can no longer remember. Beadorable was too cute, so I settled on Beadacious. When I tried to reserve that name on Etsy it was already taken, so I tacked my name KJ on front and Beads on the back for good search results, and thus:
KJs Beadacious Beads.

I named my shop Clan of the Mountaindreamers because I have always been rather obsessed with Mountains in general and the Rockies specifically. Jewelry making became an extension of my love for geology . It seemed to be a great way to fool around with rocks while pretending to be doing something productive. ; ) So what do Mountains dream about? The high vistas? The sounds of rushing waters ? Or the buried mineral treasures deep within their sanctuaries?

When I named my shop I had no idea where I'd be going with it I called it DreamSome because it was a name I'd already used for other things, the name of a song that had been a favorite years before and I always liked it. Now these days slowly changing over to the use of my name Kristi Bowman Design.

When I named my shop I was so new to all this that I didn't really thought of a name, so I just put my own name. Not very creative, I know. I wish I could change my shop name, but I can't so now I have a looong Etsy shop name creacionesnoemibaena.
Anyway, even if it is not the best name, at least it says Noemi Baena Creations, and at the end of the day, that's what I sell. My own handmade jewelery, where I do what I feel and not what others do.

What a great question. I am enjoying reading what others have to say.
My answer is a long one (my dad always says I am long winded) I own a salon named A Polished Image so when I first started making jewelry I called my jewelry shop A Polished Image Jewelry but after a few years of making jewelry I wanted to differentiate my jewelry "hat" from my nail technician "hat" I felt by having the same name I would never be looked at as an artist but as "the chick who does my nails sells this stuff" so I started thinking of new names. Then I found out, after 10 years with my husband, that we were pregnant. I was so ill and almost lost her that I had to stop beading. After she was born I was renewed creatively and knew that all the things I make from that time forward would be for and because of her hence For My Sweet Daughter :-)

Bracelets are always my favorites! I have the long winded story about the meaning of my business name on my website but the short version of the "why" behind it was that I needed some connection to my roots at that time and also wanted to have something a bit unusual. Granted, no one in the US can pronounce it but I'm ok with that!

I'm not good on naming things or anything so I took an easy way out. My name (Norma) and my material (polymer clay) and combined them. Not that everything should be solved this way. So my shop and website are NormasClay (www.normasclay.etsy.com) That bracelet is awesome.

SueBeads said...

My shop name is not very exciting either, but it's my brand, so SueBeads it is! The bracelet is so awesome!

Can't believe you asked this question as I have just gone through this process. Keep in mind that it takes forever for me to make up my mind. I considered a gazillion choices that were too specific, too cute, too boring, or had already been taken. I wanted a name that would cover my many creative endeavors no matter which direction I might take. So was born Dillman's Diversions.

well...i had all kinds of names and every single one of them were taken, even if the shop wasn't active...i tried to include my husband in on the naming of mine since he had just suffered a major stroke and was fighting to come back from it...so he 'helped' me, but all the names he came up with were pretty wild to remember...and i was in a hurry, no-nosense mood at the time, and just named it after what my friends and his family call me. Altho my name is Mary Lou, i just used the Lu and even then all the names including Lu was taken except 'DesignedByLu'--so i grabbed it thinking if not anything people should be able to remember that...hopefully that's so. My advice is just don't put a lot of weird letters or numbers that people have to remember.

My shop is KayzKreationz. I wanted it named after me, and since I seem to be changing what I do all the time, I figured Kreationz was good, because it could go for whatever I was doing/offering at the time.

Vintajia Adornments said...

Now this is a great topic!
My shop name came about as a joke.
Daughter and self were discussing my love for patinaed metals and Vintaj brass which I absolutely HAVE to use.
She suggested, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Vintajia Adornments, because of my obsession and because I am of a vintage age.
It stuck.
Naturally would give the bracelet to my cheeky brat if I were fortunate enough to win.
Many thanks to Elisabeth for offering her lovely bracelet.

Great question- I enjoyed reading the replies. I named my jewelry shop Shining Star Jewelry from a Bible verse that I love from Philippians "Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life."
I do not have an Etsy shop but have a blog which has a different name, "baglady" which is in reference to my day time job- I am an itinerent occupational therapist and I travel from school to school with my bags of therapy equipment. The kids always ask "what's in the bag?"
The bracelet is gorgeous- would love to win it!!

I have a hard time remembering names of shops that do not include the artist name somewhere. It is also easier to google, when the artist name is included. So, thanks to shops with artist names somewhere in the header!

stacilouise said...

well, even though staci louise is my name..some thought went into staci louise originals. See, my mom s name is louise, as is my middle name. Since she is soooooooooooo very creative, I thought perhaps someday we would do business together. And then we could just modify it to staci and louise originals.

What a gorgeous bracelet! I'm a sucker for lampwork beads.

I grew up in a very small town. There was a shop that my friends and I would always visit - a flower/gift shop that had the coolest stuff. Also, the owner would have art workshops, something that intrigued me as a kid just finding my 'artistic legs' and realizing I had some talent. The name of the shop was Peachtree.

Years later I married my sweetheart, and as fate would have it, his mother was the owner of that shop. The shop was long gone, but she was so elated and proud when I asked if I could use the same for my jewelry business.

I have so enjoyed reading the responses! Thanks for the chance to win that lovely bracelet!

I've been making beaded jewelry since I was in high school and I've always called it Earthly Jewels. I really can't remember how I came out with it. But, I always loved how it sounded. Thanks for the chance for this giveaway..such a lovely bracelet!

I don't have an actual shop yet but had to give my business a name when I got my business license. I call it Sunny's Delight - Sunny is my husband's nickname for me and making jewelry is my delight!

Coming up with a name for my Etsy shop caused me many sleepless nights trying to think of something that would fulfil all those must haves: short, snappy, memorable, available, encapsulates your product and brand - it just wasn't happening.

The name THEA kept coming into my head and I've no idea why other than I like the word, but I hit the laptop for a look around anyway. THEA it seems, was the Greek goddess of sight and the lights of the sky as personified by her children Helios, Selene and Eos - goddesses of the sun, moon and dawn. She also had dominion over gems and precious metals and their inherent light.

Well that seemed to me like a good enough reason to adopt her as a muse for my jewellery business, not to mention that a beautiful piece of jewellery should make anyone feel like a goddess! So 'THEA jewellery' was born and from that came the name for my blog - 'The Gossiping Goddess'.

I had several ideas for my etsy shop.....some were rejected by my daughter. Then, it seemed that everything I thought would work, was already taken. I finally settled on Carolina Purses, so that is what it is. Daughter said, "But, Mom that sounds like an old lady". I told her that I was an "Old Lady", but I refuse to act like one. I really wish I could change the shop name, but I can't, so I am stuck with it.

Trying real hard to get started with my blog. Addicted to looking at other blogs, so that takes up a lot of my time.

Love the bracelet!!!!
