And I'll take it from there...

by MaryAnn Carroll

Before I do, however, please set your alarms for 1:00 pm today so that you don't miss the LIVE OPEN STUDIO EVENT put on by Beads-of-Clay members.  This is the 3rd event.  I participated in the 2nd and had a blast!  That's why I'm doing it again.... Click HERE to be taken to the starting point.

On to the next order of business....

Okay....I don't want to hold off the suspension too much longer......  It's SHOW time!!!

It was a gloomy Friday afternoon....  very tired from working all week and listening to all of the news about the state of education in NYS.... annoyed by those who have no clue what it is to be teacher in the public school system but feel they have all of the answers and should be making all of the decisions... wondering if anyone will want to go into teaching in this state...feeling sad for the friends that I have who will be effected by all of the cuts... and happy that the weekend was here....

I drag my weary body into the house....when...

Much to my surprise ...
 a package arrives...

Upon closer examination..... what do I see?
Fabulous earrings and a necklace by our favorite.... Kelli....

~detailed wirework, handmade ceramic bead and handmade hammered pendant~

She measured and hammered well into the night...

~handmade chain~

She pulled and she twisted to make sure the clasp was just right...

~handmade toggle clasp~

She neatly packaged the necklace, earrings and such.....

~matching handmade earrings with Kelli's handmade ceramic beads~

Whoah!!!!
Don't forget the chocolate...
She LOVES it so much!

She hopped in the car and went for a ride....

Her destination, the post office..
She needed to get there on time...

Thanks so much, Kelli!  You are a VERY special friend :O)

I wanted to share with you where some of the fantastic beads that Kelli made ended up!  I knew that I was going to get something because I chose the colors that I wanted.  I knew it would be beautiful because I have other Kelli Pope jewelry, but this one exceeded my expectations!!! And....if that wasn't enough.... There WAS chocolate this time!!!  LOL ;o)

I'm holding off on the candy for right now since I've just dropped the 10 pounds of the 20 or so that I want to shed!.....  I'm going to set them aside for a special treat!

What a beautiful set! I can't imagine the amount of work that went into making the components.

My daughter graduates in May with a teaching degree and I fear for her and her graduating class to find a job. I'll never understand why the big guns can ever think it's a good idea to cut school funding.

Even worse, our Kansas governor eliminated funding to the Arts Commission, forcing it to rely on private donations! Maybe we could just fund it with the money from the atheletes that make millions of dollars a year? Hopefully this gets vetoed. Yikes, I'd better get off the subject before I blow a gasket!

Have a wonderful day!

I know Alice! I've been teaching for 26 years and I have to say that the last 3 or 4 have been very political. I'm happy that I'm nearing the end and that's sad since I really do have wonderful students and am basically happy with my job. As a special ed. teacher, of course, we aren't the ones in the spotlight! My daughter has toyed with the idea of education and I'm not totally discouraging it, just trying to redirect! On a brighter note....Isn't that jewelry gorgeous? So much time went into making that and it shows!!

That set certainly would have brightened my day, too! Beautiful work by Kelli, and that chocolate sure looks good!

It always seems that the first thing targeted by spending cuts is the "unnecessary" spending in arts and education. I think if this keeps up, the only people who will be able to afford taking a job as a teacher are the independently wealthy! So sad... Hang in there, Mary Ann!

That clasp is the coolest thing I've seen in weeks!!! It's a gorgeous necklace all around, but that makes it super special. If it wasn't beddiebye time before a big day at work tomorrow I'd break out some wire right now!
