This time of year is hard for me; the excitement of the holidays is over and around here we have several more months of cold, dreary weather. (It's no secret I'm not a fan of cold and/or snow.) Thinking some color might be a good way to distract myself, I went digging through my stash (I may have a bead hoarding issue, but that's a post for another day) and came across this elephant by Staci (Staci Louise Originals). Pulling colors from the pendant led to this interesting, eclectic mix of colors. These aren't colors I would normally put together, but it should work, right?
I haven't gotten as far as I'd hoped (I really had planned to show you a completed necklace!), but I got a bit sidetracked with the colors. I pulled the palette to match the elephant, so how is it possible that the macrame looks too blue? There isn't even any blue in it! I'll admit that the green cord has underlying blue tones, but it's green. It's called Myrtle Green.
So now that my colors are fighting, I've decided it I need to put a little distance between the knot work and the elephant. Like maybe some ceramic beads.
Hopefully I can still pull this one together. Either way, it's kept my mind off the cold weather for a little while.
How about you? Any strategies for this time of year that you'd care to share?
I looked thru a collection of crystal Quartz I mined in Mt. Ida, Arkansas. I found several tiny clusters that I found while looking thru pockets of clay. I decided to mix them with silver wire. I'll post a photo on Facebook, I'm not sure how to here.
ReplyDeleteI love your macrame work! That would cure any blues you may have.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely gorgeous color palette! I love it! I am a native of Chicago, though Virginia has been my home for quite some time now. We are JUST starting to get some cold weather, which actually gives me the kick in the pants I need to start creating. However, January, in and of itself, is always a "slow start" month for me. I am tired from all the festivities! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great start and the colors are perfect. I really like the addition of the ceramic beads.
ReplyDeleteI think this combination is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is going to be gorgeous. I do like the addition of the ceramic beads. I must admit that I kind of like the cold (not so much the snow). Hot weather is too much for me, and hot is anything much above 70. This is going to sound terrible to most people, but I've kind of missed the "real" winter we usually have by now. I don't need the polar vortex or anything, but I enjoyed finally breaking out my winter coat. Work is always really busy, so that keeps me going between endless bouts of trying to organize my studio.
