So I wanted to make a necklace...

I need a wrangler.  I am awful when it comes to keeping myself on task when I have a table full of beads.

I needed to re-stock my finished jewelry at work so first I made some beads.

Now my favorite part I went to the local bead store and sought out some Czech glass beads to go with my beads. I wanted to add some color and pop. Then I got out my own stash and found some more beads!

Then I got out everything...and of course got distracted with another idea. Too many things to choose from. So first I made this.

Which of course looks nothing like the original plan but I was super happy with it.
Finally I did a simple necklace in the end.

I am hoping that I am not the only one who jumps around. Sometimes I have a plan and execute it accordingly. But many times I am winging it.
How about you? Do you plan it all out. Sketch and then string it.
I have been known to string something up and take the whole thing apart only to start over.
I would love to hear how you create.
Off to teach in Madison WI. this weekend so next week I hope to have pictures of the class.

  1. I wing it all the time. Hardly ever do I have a plan, and that's the fun of it for me. Though many times I find myself scrapping the piece and starting over again and again.

  2. I have a sketchbook that I use for ideas on the fly; I try to use it, but I usually end up on a different track completely. I've also been known to wrip work apart and start over. I love the process!

  3. I sit down, and see what wants to be made..I don't sketch, I don't really plan...totally extemporaneous. Which is why I am not a production artist...have fun in Madison!!

  5. I've attempted to have a plan, but I never seem to stick with it. I tend to end up with beads all over too and have a hard time starting. Once I get myself going, I'm usually pretty good about following through. Great necklaces!

  6. Glad I'm not the only one out here winging iI too get distracted and sidetracked during projects. I sometimes sketch an idea, but they usually turn into something else, lol.

  7. I get distracted a LOT! Especially when I go looking for the "right" beads to match what I am working on. I often find beads I forgot I had and say "ohhhhh" and then I am off in a different direction. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
