Don't give up.....
But, they will...
...or in this case, well..... A first stoneware firing....
Don't give up.....
Just plow through....
And even if you make just a little progress...
Things will improve.... maybe not at the pace that we want...
And some change is better than nothing at all....
What do you do when things get tough?
Sometimes I cry, but when that naturally subsides, I pick myself up and move forward.
Oh, I have had parts of firings go like that. Kind of heart breaking. One of the things I like about what I do is that these little disasters present a challenge and opportunity to figure out how to do it better.
ReplyDeleteYou handled it soooo well! Yea, a few tears at times, but a wise instructor once told me "finish a mistake always, and do it quickly'! Amazing what great things I've turned out because of that. Riki
ReplyDeleteI had to deal with a major mistake in mold making yesterday. I just focused on what I could save and how to make it work regardless. My love for my work and desire to see fruition drove me forward through the few tears, exhaustion and disappointment. I like your Oopsie Kiln Flowers!

ReplyDeleteit is very theraputic to take a hammer to those little disasters, on pretense of getting your wires and rods back, but realy it is so good to wrap them up in news paper and hammer the crap out of it :-)

ReplyDeletePlant art, very cool use of your mishap (is that what it would be called?) I have been having problems with my glass fusing. it's cloudy. I am trying to move on but the waste of time and materials stinks so I have a good pout about it and put them in a pretty glass bowl and move on.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure it must be pretty devastating, when things go wrong in a firing - but that first 'piece' looks like modern sculpture and the 'flowers' are wonderful.

Thanks for all the comments! I went out of town after posting yesterday and lo an behold.... as navigator... I got us lost! Another blunder! Thankfully...she is incredibly patient and after roaming the streets between NY and Connecticut, we finally found our way and ended up in a nice Holiday Inn, got ourself some some wine and dinner and made the most of it :O)
